Pre-Conference Call Amid unprecedented global and planetary crises, this preconference session invites researchers using Cultural- Historical Activity Theory (CHAT) to come together to critically reflect on the history, present state, and possible futures of CHAT. We welcome researchers of all career stages to join us in an intergenerational dialogue on the critical and transformative potential of CHAT for social justice and ecological sustainability. What is worth keeping and preserving in CHAT and what needs to be changed and added to reimagine our scholarship in the face of today’s challenges, such as nationalism, authoritarianism, racism, ecological crisis, and multiple other forms inequality and injustice?

The preconference seminar will open with a plenary session, which seeks to reimagine and expand the domesticated canons of CHAT. In addition, the seminar offers thematic parallel sessions, round table discussions, and collective envisioning of a future agenda for critical CHAT-based research. Please join us in the session to share your research and discuss an agenda for possible futures of Cultural-Historical Activity Theory (CHAT).

Warmly welcome everyone,

Arturo Cortéz, Anu Kajamaa, José Lizarraga, Kalonji Nzinga, Alfredo Jornet, Antti Rajala, Edward Rivero
