I am a cultural developmental psychologist with an interest in application of theoretical ideas to the design of educational policy and professional practices. Born and raised in a middle-class English family in London, I have lived most of my adult life in Zambia, where I became a naturalised citizen in 1979 and worked on the faculty of the University of Zambia from 1965 to 2019, with an extended break as a professor at UMBC in Baltimore USA (1989-2002).
