This presentation brings together scholars from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, USA and the Universidade Federal Fluminense, Brazil to discuss how Vygotskian cultural-historical theory and Indigenous approaches to learning can decolonize educational practices. Drawing on the Indigenous Learning Lab (ILL), a formative intervention study, the session explores collaborative interventions that address racialized school discipline and promote healing from historical trauma through a community-led systemic transformation process. ILL integrates CHAT with Indigenous epistemologies.
The event will be held at the Instituto Benjamin Constant (IBC) in Rio de Janeiro, featuring Professors Aydin Bal and Jader Janer.
