Summary: My approach to meaning-making has been inspired by the dialogic philosophy of M.M. Bakhtin and Vygotsky’s theories of play’s developmental significance (play-ZPD). I started developing my own approach to meaning-making while I was still in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. In my dissertation on children’s spontaneous metaphors, “Metaphor beyond play,” I laid out my future approach to children’s pretend play.

Excellent presentation this morning, Ana!
So much in it worth highlighting. In particular, I am interested in the “meta” aspects of children’s play: Meta-conceptual, meta-ontological, and meta-ethical. As I commented during Q&A, meta-aesthetic can be paired with meta-ethical. I liked very much the master player as someone who is recognized as a fair-minded adept, rather than an enforcer. And, again, I like Vera John-Steiner’s notion of complementary skill-sets in creative collaboration, which is the play you describe. Please make your slides available!
Dear Henry,
Thanks a lot for your interesting comments.
How can I share my slides with you and everyone?
Ana
Dear Ana, I could include them in the post if you’d like to share them with the community. Thanks!
