Title: Preschool for Toktogul, Kyrgyzstan: A story of Cultural Change for Teachers, Parents and their Children

Summary: This presentation will describe the development of a new vision for preschool education in central Kyrgyzstan. The story will focus on the work of 2 educators to create a teacher training program and open a pilot preschool in summer 2023. The ongoing work of observing and supporting teachers in fall of 2023 will be set out as well as the continued effort to disseminate new ideas to other teachers and parents. Questions the team continues to ask are: what is supporting and sustaining teachers on this journey to create a new kind of future for young children in Toktogul, Kyrgyzstan? What can we learn from the enormous cultural shift under way in what schooling can look like for the young Kyrgytz children?
