I am a Professor Emerita in Early Childhood Education, retired from Cleveland State University. My study and research over the years has focused on the languages and literacies of young emergent bilinguals in cultural contexts: homes, classrooms, communities, attempting to use socio/cultural/historical perspectives and methods to understand their wisdom and accomplishments. I've looked at children's multiple literacies in play and in religious settings and worked with colleagues exploring culturally relevant/sustaining pedagogies in Early Childhood. More recently I've been interested in Pro-Black pedagogies and the broader field of Early Childhood.
