Dear colleagues,
We are pleased to invite you to an upcoming CHAT for Change Thematic Group Seminar featuring Aydin Bal (University of Wisconsin–Madison) and Maria Spante (University West, Sweden):
Scaling and Local Engagement: Dynamic Outcomes of Coalescing Local Activities
📅 Wednesday, November 11, 2026
🕘 9:00–10:30 a.m. Wisconsin–Madison time (CST)
🕓 4:00–5:30 p.m. Sweden time (CET)
Online seminar
The seminar will explore scaling and local engagement through coalescing as a process through which locally situated activities connect and develop a broader shared direction while retaining their distinct local conditions and practices. The discussion will consider scaling as an emergent process and examine what this perspective means for research and collaborative practice.
Drawing on examples from their research, Aydin Bal and Maria Spante will connect theoretical discussions of scaling and local engagement to research practice. The first hour will include presentations and conversation, followed by 30 minutes of open-floor discussion.
